As a researcher, engineer and technology manager with range across the full value and supply chains, currently working as an independent consultant to a variety of companies. I specialise in implementation of operational systems that deliver superior business returns and provide social value to the communities in which they operate.
All my career I’ve brought people and technology together as co-workers. This is how I use technology to unlock human potential, harness increased productivity, reduce costs, improve safety performance and create social value for a better world.
I started early. Founding a start-up at the age of 14 with my friends, we successfully brought numerous businesses into the digital age. At age 12 a chance visit with my parents to a mine site, catalysed a deep curiosity in me for how things work. It also seeded the start of a long-standing resources and mining career where I express passion to bring my best to the world and my family.
“My resources and mining work blends science, engineering, art, technology and people. I’m the one who ensures technology is designed for operations where products are fit for purpose, highly functional, operator friendly and work.”
Adam Foot – Philosophy
I am a researcher at the University of Queensland undertaking a PhD on the key organisational factors that enable the highly reliable delivery of technology projects, with a focus on improving outcomes and reducing risk in complex environments.
Alongside my research, I am the Global Business Development Manager – Autonomous Haulage at Hitachi Construction Machinery, leading strategic engagement with mining companies worldwide to advance the adoption of cutting-edge automation solutions.
Previously, I held senior leadership roles in major global mining companies, including Rio Tinto and BHP, where I was at the forefront of applying advanced mining systems in complex operational environments. My ability to bridge the gap between operations and technology delivered improved performance, enhanced risk management, stronger cyber security, better database storage, simplified data access, and more user-friendly systems.
Earlier in my career, as Chair of the AusIMM Southern QLD Branch and representative of QLD Mining Professionals, I led the industry’s response to Industrial Manslaughter legislative changes, enabled the organisation to pivot during COVID-19, expanded online professional development, and contributed to committees that introduced a Social Value professional standard.
“As an Industry mentor, I’ve continue to help university students bridge the learning gap between theoretical topics and real-world technological examples within large-scale business and industry.”

Explores how mining operations can design, implement, and sustain autonomous systems that complement, rather than replace, human expertise. Covers strategies for fostering trust between operators and technology, reshaping roles for higher-value work, and creating a culture that embraces human–machine collaboration to improve safety, efficiency, and job satisfaction.
Examines how mining companies can transform raw operational data into actionable insights through governance, analytics, and AI, enabling better risk management, faster decision-making, and long-term operational resilience.
Explore the organisational and cultural factors that enable seamless integration of advanced technologies, such as autonomous haulage into complex mining environments, delivering measurable gains in performance, safety, and reliability.
Adam explored how strategic data collection, curation, and project scoping underpin reliable analytics and AI deployment in mining.
